Savage is catering to all of the small caliber fans and varmint hunters out there with the launch of the 110 Prairie Hunter. This rifle is chambered in 224 Valkyrie, which is a wise choice by Savage because this cartridge is known to have less wind drift and drop than any caliber in it’s class while maintaining less recoil than any cartridge that offers similar ballistics. All of this allows the hunter to put more rounds on target.
As mentioned, the R26 is built around the bullpup design. This means that the trigger is in front of the firing mechanism. This allows the crossbow to keep a shorter overall length while maintaining a long power stroke, leading to higher velocities.
As implied by the name, the 110 High Country’s target market is the long range hunting community. This gun is relatively light for it’s capabilities coming in around 8 pounds regardless of caliber chosen. This was accomplished by choosing to use a medium contour barrel and bolt.
Hunting for black bear just isn’t the same without the help of trained hounds. They’re efficient, intense, and make any bear hunt more likely to succeed.
I found this to be a great optic and experimentally determined it to be exceptionally precise and overbuilt as most Nightforce optics are. I would trust my life in the wilderness with it if I were hunting dangerous game and I would put my faith in it if I were shooting benchrest competitions.
While sheep hunting, you are in truly rough country and I had no trouble getting distances from objects and structures that I normally would not be able to get them from. The Leupold RX-2800 proved itself a valuable and effective tool for hunting.
